Golden pen 2005.

The Croatian National Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board and the City of Split Tourist Board will host the annual "Golden Pen" Awards ceremony from May 11 to 14, 2006.

The "Golden Pen" is an award granted to foreign journalists covering tourism, for best work in writing, TV or radio show about Croatia, published or aired in 2005.

36 foreign journalists from 18 countries will be present for the three-day affair, held in Split-Dalmatia County. Besides the official awards ceremony the journalists will be treated to an interesting program and visits to historical sites in Split, Salona and the Makarska Riviera.

On day one, May 11, 2006, the visiting journalists will tour Diocletian's Palace. The evening will see a gala reception hosted by Split Mayor Zvonimir Puljić and the event organiser, Croatian National Tourist Board Director Niko Bulić, in the cellars of Diocletian's Palace. Welcome addresses by Mr Puljić and Mr Bulić will be followed by a presentation of tourism in the region and the city of Split by the Director of the City and County Tourist Boards respectively, Vedran Matošić and Mili Razović.

A 10:00 am press conference at the Meštrović Gallery will open May 12, 2006, at which Niko Bulić, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, will present the strategic goals and comparative advantages of Croatian tourism. Minister for Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Mr Božidar Kalmeta, Split-Dalmatia County Prefect Ante Sanader and Split Mayor Zvonimir Puljić will be there to welcome the visiting journalists.

7:00 pm that same day, May 12, 2006, will see the official "Golden Pen" awards ceremony at the Villa Dalmatia where foreign journalists will receive recognition for best written work or TV or radio show on Croatia published or aired in 2005. As a sign of thanks for their exceptional contribution in promoting the advantages of the Croatian tourist offer and its presentation to readers, viewers and listeners in foreign market medias, the awards will be presented by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, Minister for Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Božidar Kalmeta and the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Niko Bulić.

May 13, 2006 the journalists will have an opportunity to see the beauty of the Makarska Riviera where tours are foreseen of Baška Voda, Makarska, Tučepi, Podgora and Zaostro. The hosts will do their best to ensure that the journalists feel the scents, tastes, sounds and colour of the "Mediterranean as it once was" at these destinations.
